The New Season of YDC begins!

We had a very exciting first season of the Youth Company, performing new choreography at the Richmond Festival of Performing Arts, the Lilian Bailis Theatre at Sadlers Wells, Dance For Life in support of The British Red Cross, and our very own Season Finale at Jackson's Lane Theatre.

Now we're gearing up for 2010/2011! The first rehearsal period will be during the October half term, and the year ahead promises to be full of new choreography, guest choreographers, teachers, performances and more! If you would like to apply, please email youthcompany@temperedbody.com for your registration form. The deadline for application is October 11th!

Developed and run by Tempered Body Dance Theatre in partnership with the Highgate Ballet School, the Youth Dance Company will offer young dancers the opportunity to rehearse and perform on a regular basis, as well as work with professional dancers in an exciting and inspiring environment.

Who is it for?

The Highgate Ballet School Youth Dance Company is for dedicated dancers aged 10 – 16, who take at least two dance classes a week. It is for dancers interested in performing and rehearsing different styles of dance, pushing themselves physically to reach their goals and learning about the professional world of dance.

Young dancers involved in the company will be encouraged to develop their personal strengths through the demanding and rewarding rehearsal periods and performances throughout the year.

Opportunities

Dancers in the Youth Dance Company will be performing at regular festivals in Greater London throughout the year, as well as larger performance platforms in dance venues and professional theatres across London. The Youth Dance Company will have the chance to work with Tempered Body and even perform alongside them!

Rehearsals

Intensive rehearsal periods will take place during the half-terms and holiday times. This will ensure full commitment without getting in the way of regular classes and academic work.

Commitment

Dancers wishing to be involved in the Youth Dance Company will have to prove their commitment. The company will be run with a professional dance company mentality and outlook. It is therefore necessary for every dancer in the company to be taking a minimum of two dance classes a week during regular term times, and at least one of these must be at Highgate Ballet School, in order to ensure consistency and quality of training. No rehearsal period may missed without permission. If you are invited to join the company you will have to commit to the entire year, and be at every rehearsal period unless prior agreement has been arranged. Dancers will also be required to come to rehearsals ready to work hard and be dedicated to the process. Whether students are interested in a career in dance or not, the self discipline, motivation, and sense of accomplishment achieved through rehearsals and performing are invaluable to personal development; growth, technique and artistic awareness will be supported and nurtured by the company.
